Salsify provides solutions that help their customers—brands, retailers, and distributors—drive business results. The existing platform is continually evolving, and the design team is always eager to involve customers in the product design process. By capitalizing on their feedback, the team is better positioned to build the best possible outcomes for their large user base. To improve the process, Corey (Salsify’s Sr. Product Designer) launched an in-app prompt via Candu targeted at driving user engagement in product research sessions about a particular feature: Workflows. The banner was visible in the relevant part of the Salsify platform and offered users the chance to view and provide feedback on new designs; linking out to Calendly made it convenient for customers to book user interviews at a time that worked for them.
Giving a “voice” to the user program is a key initiative for Salsify’s product designers. The team must understand the features that delight, user challenges, and functionality gaps. But getting users to actually engage and commit their time to a product research session was the real challenge. (Users are busy!)
Corey had primarily relied on email communications prior to Candu—reaching out to a batch of targeted users and waiting for responses to trickle in over a few weeks. Just three days after launching the in-app banner, Corey saw a 200% increase in the number of research sessions booked and almost 1,000 unique user views. The non-intrusive nature of the banner allows the content to stay visible until users dismiss it. The no-code embedded user interface (UI) component kept the inquiry top of mind for returning users while giving them a chance to register at a time that suits them.
Bringing the request into the product—where users live the most—has been an effective communication and engagement strategy for Salsify’s design team. Using Candu’s UI component builder, Corey was not only able to quickly create and launch this embedded banner but iterate on its messaging and content once the experiment was live.
